Be Grateful

Dear Pumps & Gloss Friends,

Jennifer Hudson After Win

I am very pleased with Jennifer Hudson’s Oscar win, as well as her other triumphs during this award season. I am glad that she won the Golden Globe, the first of many awards. I was also pleased that she acknowledged and thanked Florence Ballard, one-third of the Supremes whom her character, Effie White, was loosely based. (The operative word is loosely.)

We all know Jennifer’s story. Some say she was ousted too early on American Idol. According to Hudson, after leaving AI, she was not offered a record contract or career support, and had to rely solely on God for help and strength. That is why Jennifer is so grateful for all her success because she put all of her trust in God. She auditioned, was rejected, and then, after all that, she received the part that put her in the history books as the third Black woman to win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. As she looks back over the past few years, I am sure is she grateful for her American Idol experience for all the trials she faced, which taught her perseverance and faith.

We should always be grateful for our success, meaning not taking it for granted, as well as trials. Sometimes, our trials yield great success. I am grateful to God for my grandmother. She endured a lot when she came to the United States, leaving her husband and her children behind, to embark on a new and better life for all of us. I have never taken her experiences lightly because she instilled in us a sense of purpose, pride, and faith in God. Her trials led to the success of the family, including grandchildren and great grandchildren. My grandmother always delighted herself in the Lord, and she did receive the desires of her heart.

I implore you this week, take time to be grateful for everything, for waking up in the morning, for being in your right mind, for friends and family, especially family. Start journaling, if you have not already started, about being grateful. Record the simple things and the bigger, more noticeable things. Watch how the process will begin to change your life.

We love to hear from you, please tell us some things that you are grateful or thankful for.

Be Triumphant,

Mix Maven
