Hey Glossies,

Today’s Friday Footwear is a tribute to my dear maternal grandmother. I miss her dearly.

I need to explain my affinity for black patent leather. I love it and I cannot remember a time not loving it.  It all started with my grandmother,who, if I dare say, put the ON in fashion.  Because she was always ON it! ) I will credit her for passing on her excellent sense of style and great taste to me.

My grandmother, “Pearl”,  and I were very close. I spent large chunks of time with her on the weekends because she lived upstairs from us.  From time to time, I would spend time with her while she was working.  She was a deeply religious lady who knew how to have tons of fun, in moderation, of course. 

She knew how to dress! While other grandmothers were looking frumpy, she was always quite chic, showing a hint of cleavage and/or leg, at times. (And for those who know me very well, know that is where I get it from) lol. She was the familial guardian of fashion and we all looked to her for guidance because if Grandma could wear something, so could we.

I remember her having a lot of shoes, but I recall, vividly, her patent leather pumps and and a strappy black and taupe high heel sandals.  As a young girl, I would put on the black patent leather pumps and strut around the house and when I say “strut” I really mean I wobbled around the place.  I couldn’t wait to be of age where I could wear them for real.

So with all that being said, my Friday Footwear selection is the Dolce Vita ‘Claudine’ Pump in the black patent leather (it also comes in nude).

I believe my grandmother would’ve have worn these retro-inspired pumps, well maybe if the heels were 3.5 inches instead of 5.25 inches.

Mother’s Day is almost here.  This year, I have been quite proactive in procuring a gift for Mama Maven.  I think she will love her gift.

Here are some of my favorite things:

Yum Yum Candle makes a return to this list. Yum Yum Candles have great products and pretty packaging.  I love the candles and now, I am huge fan of the Mango Whipped Butter.  First of all, the whipped lotion smells yummy! Plus, the scent lasts and it soothes dry skin.  The lotion lasts pretty much all day.  The only con is that it smells so good that people may want to take a bite out of you.

I also recommend the body polish too.  It definitely soothes the skin leaving it soft and smooth.

I love a sheath! I love a rosette accent! So the Talbots Rose Sheath is a must-have for me.

I love the dress in Bordeaux and Black. The great thing about this dress is that it comes in Misses, Petite and Women’s sizes.  Great look for many Moms.

I have had my eye on the Nook Color for some time.  I like the Nook because it is color, has a browser, touchscreen, an app store.  I am huge Kindle (for BB) fan. I love the selection of titles and cost, but I don’t like the actual Kindle unit.

The Nook Color has an app store and from what I read, a user can download Kindle for Android on it. So, if that is possible, I think I would be multi-winning. lol

Steve Madden Serenitl thong sandal is a great pick for the mom who is hip and fab, but needs to be flexible to run after young children or just wants to be comfortable.  Wedges are not for everyone. *GASP*

The leopard print is edgy, but the colors are neutral and will look fun with most summer looks.

This year is my first mother’s day.  Carrying a person inside of you and all the changes that the body goes through is NOT a joke.

I enjoy Sports talk radio when I can. One thing I do not like is when men refer to a weak man as a vagina.  I hereby declare that the penis cannot endure what the vagina has to go to through (monthly, yearly, and during pregnancy)! If men could bear children naturally with the same parts, the world would be far less populated.  Saying all that, mothers deserve the best gifts!

Mama Maven is a huge candle fan, so I decided to check out a company called The Yum Yum Candle.  This company  was started by 3 fabulous women and has great products, which include candles and room sprays.  The candles smell yummy.   I have the Delightful and Honeysuckle Pear.  I found that just leaving the little tins open can instantly change to a sweet and yummy scent. The packaging is also lovely and the tins are easy to store.

Another neat Mother’s Day gift is the new Chrisette Michele CD, entitled Ephipany.  I have her first album and I love it. Her voice is quite versatile and lush! I totally enjoyed her first CD and I know you and mom will enjoy.  She is one the few singers that I believe could sing any style of music and sound good doing it. This album is on heavy rotation in my household.  I like ALL the songs, which is quite rare for me. I also can listen to Amy Winehouse’s Frank from start to finish.

For the fashionista mummy, the Christian Louboutin Bouquet Platform.  This pump is sexy and subtle all at the same time.  The lace adds an uber-feminine.

If mother likes things glossy, get her some Kissable Couture products.  I love Peony and Chris lip glosses.  Peony is a mauve-y/pink color, while Chris is a neutral gold.  The colors are highly pigmented for glosses, which I like.  Kissable Couture also sells a gift set called Smooches, which is a collection of 5 mini-glosses (a must have for all beauty mavens.)

Mother’s Day is May 11, 2008.

Mothers work hard to make sure their children have everything they need to be successful, well-adjusted, respectful human beings.

I have never seen pregnant pics of my mother, but I can picture her swollen feet, her feelings of nausea. I am grateful to my mum for being who she is and raising a well-adjusted, respectful, intelligent, (and many more positives) woman.

Here are some mother’s day gift ideas for mothers and I things that I would want when I become a mother.

I love Barrie Pace. Over the years, I have gotten suits and dresses for my mother from this e-tailer. I love, love, love this French pink suit. The black beading work is so delicate and visually appealing.

I love this Chloe peep-toe shoe. The shoe is not very exciting to the eye, but I know it would look good on my feet. Mama Maven does not wear heels anymore, so I know she would not even look at these shoes. Mama Radiance and Mama Sensual Element would definitely be pleased with this gift.

We love Coach and I am in love with this purse. (I love it so much that I would name it!) I think our moms would love to include this lovely patent leather satchel to their collections.

I am in love with my MacBook and I think all the mothers of the world should own Apple computers.

If your mom enjoys inspirational gospel music, she will love this CD. One of the favorites on this CD is “Never Would Have Made It.” Mama Maven loves this song and she hums this song often.

We wish all the moms of the world a very happy Mother’s Day. Message to children and fathers: Spoil and pamper mothers on this day (better yet once a month!)
