A Few of My Favorite…….
Happy Holidays (Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Kwanzaa) to all.
This writer’s strike is really bothering me. I am missing Conan O’Brien, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. If there were not other important things going on in my life, I would have no reason to exist. I hope both parties can come to a suitable agreement, so I can see my men live on the TV once again.
My top 5 favorites shows are (not in any specific order) that I have never discussed on Pumps and Gloss before:
- Eureka on the SciFi Network – Mr. Maven turned me on to this show as he is a sci-fi fan, but not in a weird/nerdy way. The show is about a sheriff who moves to a town where all the residents are geniuses. One of the major employers of the town is Global Dynamic where scientists work on high-level, top secret assignments for the Department of Defense. The show has a nice mix of romance, science and mayhem, which I totally love. The ensemble cast includes Salli Richardson, Joe Morton, and Colin Ferguson.

- The Nanny -I love this show. When the show first aired, I was a freshman in college. At the time, I liked how Nanny Fine dressed because I, too, loved the short skirts and wore them as often as I could. The show is a classic just like “I Love Lucy.”

- I am not a huge animated fan, but I love “The Boondocks.” This sharply written animated show is definitely NOT for the kids. The show is based on the cartoon strip of the same name. The strip contained a biting critique of popular and political culture in the United States. My favorite episodes include Gangstalicious, a rapper who gets shot and kisses a fellow male rapper. I am still trying to figure out who he is supposed to represent.

- Chuck is a new show on NBC prime time. We missed a few episodes in the beginning. Thankfully, we were able to catch on easily to the show. “Chuck” is a show about 20-something techy nerd, who accidentally downloads NSA and CIA information into his brain. Chuck works at BuyMore as a tech support that works in the Nerd Herd (i.e. Geek Squad.) He works undercover for the government and each week battles, along with his spy handlers, terrorists and other evil-doers.

- Las Vegas is worth watching for Josh Duhamel alone. He is definitely fine!! I liked the kick-a$$ nature of the show, until James Caan decided to leave the show, I am sure for valid reasons. The new addition of Tom Selleck as casino owner is a, somewhat, dull . Would have been super nice, if Mike got the President of Operations job, considering he has a degree from MIT. Still I enjoy the show, but I waiting for an increase in kick assery.

What are some of your favorite television shows?

Party All The Time
Hey Pumps And Gloss-y Ones,
As many of you know, Mix Maven loves the shimmer and glimmer, which is one of the reasons why I love the Holiday season. Many of us will have many shindigs to attend, which means we have to be looking good. (Please make sure to acquire appropriate attire for your parties. For example, if you are going to a formal church banquet, no one should have to accidentally see the crack of your buttocks.)
I like J. Crew and I think this store is a good place to find classic, tasteful looks for any occasion.
I found this wonderful dress in the clearance section of the website. The empire waist is flattering on most figures. Pair with chunky pearl necklace or white gold or sterling silver with a solitaire pendant.
I like this dress. This J. Crew Silk Taffeta Dress in Charcoal is for ladies that are not too busty. (If you are busty, back away from this dress right now!!) What about pairing this dress with blue or olive leather opera gloves for a pop of color?
I am totally in love with the Black Betsey Johnson and Kelly Green Maggy London shift dresses. The sequins brighten up the Betsey Johnson dress. Most, if not all, body types would look great in this style of dress.
I adore the layered box pleated-collar because it creates visual interest to an otherwise plain dress. The silk chiffon is glorious and looks chic and comfortable. This dress is also figure flattering and great for the petite ladies who are a few months pregnant.
If you get bored with all the carols and other holiday songs at the soirée, ask the DJ to play “Dumb it Down” by Lupe Fiasco …. great message in the song!!
My new favorite song!!

Joyful Radiance’s Christmas Wish List
Happy Holidays Glossy Ones!
We certainly hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving. My family spent the day with my husband’s family and we all had a blast eating my mother-in-law’s delicious food – turkey, pot roast, dressing, mac and cheese, green beans, potato salad, yams, rolls, sweet potato pie, lemon pound cake and carrot cake. Whew! We all played Scene It – The Television Version on DVD and it was so much fun. I am still full!!!!
This week, the Ladies of Pumps and Gloss will be sharing their Christmas Wish Lists. Let the fun begin!
Outside of peace, love and unlimited credit, I want the 8GB Apple iPod Nano in Red. I love that half of the proceeds go to help women and children in Africa. Go Red!
I have always wanted a Coach Picture Frame Keyfob. Wouldn’t pics of my hubby and puppy be cute?

Gift cards in any amount from Starbucks (A great stocking stuffer or gift for a coffee drinking co-worker), Target (isn’t that little dog cute!) or iTunes (for my new iPod!) would be sweet.

Now that I am back to work – yes, yours truly is back in full effect in the busy field of HR - I need to step up my wardrobe game. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any pics of suits that I like. Nuts! Tahara is my all time fave, so suit and work looks will have to come in another post. However, I do love these Coach Jilly Travel Ballet Flats. Perfect for my commute to and from work. Scuffing my pumps just won’t do. I love all the colors, so any pair would be perfect.

I certainly cannot be seen walking into the building with a plastic bag containing my lunch and shoes. So not fly. I must get a fabulous tote bag, perferably one that will coordinate with my purse. I love the size of this Coach Signature Studded Gallery Tote. I would likely get the black on black one.

In order to keep in touch with Mix and Sen during the day, I have to upgrade my cell phone. This Palm Centro from Sprint is just what I need – access to Messenger!

The Simpsons Movie comes out on DVD December 18th. Mmmmmmmmmm……movie!
I need some new music a.s.a.p.! I would love Jill Scott’s new CD, “The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Volume 3” featuring “My Love” (above) and Kanye West’s “Graduation” featuring “Flashing Lights” with Dwele (below). Get hip to Dwele yall – he is true neo soul at its best.

You can never have too much Bath and Body Works. This Luxury Bath gift basket is the perfect gift for the bath lover in your life. Love it!
Next week, I will show you glossy ones what I plan on getting for my parents. Mom is easy, but Dad is so difficult! Ugh!
It is more blessed to give than to receive. ~ Acts 20:35
Have a great week!
~Joy
P.S. I will also take anything from my luxury posting! LOL!
And I just adore this Mutts comic that ran in Sunday’s paper.

It says, “If the only prayer you say in your life is thank you, that would suffice.” Meister Eckhart
Favorite Erotic Song
What is your favorite erotic song? Yes, I said erotic song and not love song. I was talking to a friend of mine and she is making an erotic CD. As she stated this, I thought wow this would make for a good writing. The first song that came to mind is Erotic City by Prince. We all know that is this an all time favorite as well as hot music to you’re your freak on. The lyrics are as follows:
All of my purple life
I’ve been looking for a dame
That would wanna be my wife
That was my intention, babe
If we cannot make babies, maybe we can make some time
F*** so pretty you and me, Erotic City come alive
We can **** until the dawn, making love ’til cherry’s gone
Erotic City can’t u see, f*** so pretty you and me
Every time I comb my hair
Thoughts of u get in my eyes
You’re a sinner, I don’t care
I just want your creamy thighs
If we cannot make babies, maybe we can make some time
F*** so pretty you and me, Erotic City come alive
We can **** until the dawn, making love ’til cherry’s gone
Erotic City can’t u see, f*** so pretty u and me
All of my hang-ups r gone
How I wish u felt the same
We can **** until the dawn (‘Til the dawn) (Until the dawn)
How I wish u were my dame (Baby won’t you call my name)
Lyrics were taken from yahoo Music.
Sorry Glossy Ones, I could not find a true Prince video for Erotic City. So, I leave you with this adaptation
All I can say is Prince is the man. This song makes you wanna do bad with another person. I admit it took me back just thinking about the song. Whew!!!!!!!!
Let us not forget about Maxwell, Till the Cops Come Knocking. The lyrics are as follows:
Didn’t you dig the way I rubbed yo back girl
Wasn’t it cool when first I kissed yo lips
Was it enough to penetrate yo dark world
Or were you embarrassed about the way you freaked
Well I wanna hold you
I wanna know you baby
If it’s alright
1 – Gonna take you in the room suga’
Lock you up and love for days
We gonna be rockin’ baby
‘Til the cops come knockin’
Pappa gonna have to leave
A message on the telephone baby
There won’t be no stoppin’ me
‘Til the cops come knockin’
Six on a Thursday night and you be jonesin’ baby
For a brother to hold you tight and keep on goin’
Last lover came and went
Didn’t even hug n’ kiss you n’ caress you
Gimme a call it’s cool the m’s all open
I’m open wider than oceans
I’ll be your lotion
If it’s alright
Gonna take you in the room suga’
Lock you up and love for days
We gonna be rockin’ baby till the cops come knockin’
Repeat 1
Please you tease you eat you
Make you feel so good inside
Loving you long if that’s alright?
Gonna take you in the room suga’
Lock you up and love for days
We gonna be rockin’ baby till the cops come knockin’
Repeat 1
Lyrics were taken from Yahoo Music.
Now when Maxwell came out with this song, everyone was singing this hit. It was the new anthem for getting your groove on.
So my Glossy one’s, I ask you what is your favorite erotic song? Let us know at pumps and gloss. You can email us your song with the best verse or just drop us a line in the comment section.
Have an erotic weekend.
Sensual Element
Sport and the Lady
Happy Wednesday Pumps and Gloss-ers,
I am very excited about the Red Sox World Series win. Mr. Maven and I used to live in the Greater Boston area and we like to think that our presence in the region helped to turn the Red Sox and Patriots into winning organizations. Boo hiss to the Celtics and Bruins. My local teams are far superior to them.
I found this cute picture of future Boston Red Sox fans on Boston.com
New Englanders are very passionate about their sports’ teams, which means the ladies must be just as attentive to sports as the men.
I was out with my friend, LH, on a Sunday. Her fiance called in to check in with her, during his weekly football game. [That is love
] So she was resigned to the fact that her honey will be unavailable for 16 weeks plus playoffs and Super Bowl. Actually, the games are scheduled for 17 weeks (34 days including Monday Night Football and some Thursday nights) and all teams get a bye (rest) week. Thank goodness he is not into the NBA because the post-season is about 3 months. Saying all this, ladies, you must join in the action, every now and again.
Mr. Maven is fortunate that I like sports, I do not watch often because of various factors, but I enjoy keeping up with my fave teams.
Here are some tips for learning sports:
1. Watch Pardon The Interruption on ESPN. This show is one of the funniest shows on the TV. Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon are Washington-based writers that decided they needed to be on television. They also discuss popular culture topics i.e. American Idol and other popular shows.
2. Find a cute player on the team to cheer for. One of my favorites is Tom Brady. He is definitely yummilicious. I have followed his career from his time at Michigan to the New England Patriots. In football, it is helpful to check out the buttocks. Now, if your man likes hockey, the players do not look good on ice, but they clean up well.
3. Read books about the sport. Some of my friends recommend:
Get Your Own Darn* Beer, I’m Watching the Game!: A Woman’s Guide to Loving Pro Football by Holly Robinson Peete
4. Try to limit questions during the game. Take notes and ask your hubby on Tuesday. He will be pleased and will do chores around the house without being prompted.
5. See Tip 1. One cannot get enough of ESPN.
I hope these tips will help you learn more about sports and enjoy with your spouse or significant other.
Have Fun,
Mix Maven
Fall Back In Love
Hey Pumps and Gloss-ers,
My favorite seasons are spring and autumn. The temperature tends to be similar in both seasons, which means that I can wear my favorite must-have, a cardigan.
Lane Bryant has a cute cropped, single button, swing silhouette cardigan in Indigo.
This cardigan can be dressed up (not too much) and very casual. I would pair it with this Diane von Furstenberg’s metallic skirt in silver. Mix Maven loves shimmer.
The Stuart Weitzman ‘Pulsar’ Boot would be a great way to finish off this look. I love this boot because the heel is manageable, especially for those ladies who do not like to wear high heels *GASP* and while the boots are leather, they stretch for ladies with wider calves.
Please add your own accessories. I would probably wear a pearl brooch or a light blue gem with silver prongs as I do not wear jewelry, except for wedding rings and bracelets. The skirt is the focal point; therefore, I would not want to anything away from it.
A special note for all you purple lovers, purple apparel and accessories can be found pretty much everywhere. Please take advantage as this color is not usually selected by the color committee.
Keep Warm,
Mix Maven
Everything I Am
Happy Wednesday,
I realize that all artistic geniuses are troubled, which explains Kanye’s frequent rants and why some artists consider suicide as cure all for personal angst. (Mental illness should no longer be ignored!)
Saying all that, Kanye West was a good sport for doing the skits on Saturday Night Live of his obnoxious ranting and raving. The best quote of the skit, Kanye storms the podium lambasting the children for voting for “Drake and Josh.” He screams, “how’s kids gonna get taken seriously, if they keep making bad choices. I used to believe the children were our future, but f*** that!” Too funny!!!
You all need to cop [if you have not done so already] (are people still saying cop), “Graduation”. Kanye’s sound is not formulaic compared to other mainstream rappers, he fuses hip hop and reggae, alternative sounds even has Chris Martin of ColdPlay singing the hook to one of his songs. I enjoy this album, the current standouts are “Champion”, “Good Life” with T-Pain, the MJ sample of “PYT”, which the Ladies of P&G are certified members of this exclusive club, “Everything I Am,” a heartfelt anthem about being different in the rap game, and the heart wrenching, “Bittersweet Poetry,” which features the vocal stylings of John Mayer. (The first time I heard this song, I did not realize JM was on the track.) This angst-laden song laments a complicated love affair. Mayer croons, “I don’t want you, but I need you/I love you and hate you at the very same time.”
Can’t Tell Me NothingGood Life
Bittersweet Poetry
Joyful Radiance, not an avid SNL viewer, decided to watch the season premiere. Her favorite parody of the night was “High School Musical 3: Return of the Seniors.” She told me that she fell off her sofa when she heard LeBron sing, “On second thought/ I think I’ll stick around/Play a little ball/And have sex with your girlfriend.” She does not want anyone to know that she will be watching more often.
That is our little secret. (Shhhh)
Have an awesome week
Mix Maven
P.S.
Sexual Carob has recommend some “toys” for me to try. Will report when I return from my anniversary excursion.
Feeling Bubbly
Hey Pumps and Gloss-ers,
Thank you for your warm birthday wishes!! I appreciate it!!!!
As fall is drawing nigh (my fave time of the year), I have been thinking about the music I discovered over the summer. I do not listen to music stations, except for Spirit (on XM) on Saturday mornings riding to church, so I depend on the Internet to find me new music.
Colbie Caillat, a 22 year old from Malibu, sings sweetly about falling in love, breaking up, the birth of a niece as well as growing up. Music is in her DNA as her dad, Ken, is a record producer, who has worked with such acts as Fleetwood Mac. (Her song, Bubbly, was the free song of the week on iTunes.)
Her voice made me of a White version India.Arie (sans inspiration). Her first single, Bubbly, from the CoCo album, reminded me of the innocence of love, even though this same love can be hot and sexy. Bubbly is an easy breezy tune that explores the quiet times shared with one’s lover.
I enjoy this album from track 1 to the bonus track Older (iTunes version). The sound is definitely a folky pop with slight ska rhythms. Now, I find it does not work well as a road trip album because the record is very relaxing. Definitely not like Norah Jones’ music, which I refer to as “sleepy time music.” Norah should be listened to, only, at home.
(Bubbly)
Sara Bareilles, another artist who had a free single of the week on iTunes, is one of my new favorites. Her sound is definitely poppy soul with jazz influences. I am kinda bummed because I could have her seen her open for Maroon 5, but I decided that I did not want to go. It is rare to have an opening and main performer that you want to see performing at the same time. (Sidebar: I showed up for an opening act, Jill Scott. Definitely worth the price.)
All the tracks on, Little Voice, are very solid and substantive. The song, Love Song, really pulls you in. Made me think, “Girrrrl, don’t write him anything!!” I like all the songs, but my fave right now is “Morningside.”
She belts:
I try to forget what you do to me but then you do it over again
I could rage like a fire and you’d bring rain
Til you get to me on my morningside
This is definitely a road trip CD. Keeps you pumped up and awake.
You can tell that she has been honing her craft for a long time. I love her voice because she is one of those singers that can sing anything: from gospel to rock. She knows how to command a room with her voice. I want to see her doing Broadway, maybe even a jazz cover album. The possibilities for Sara are endless.
I think she will be around for awhile, but I need to see her promoted better i.e. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno or Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
Vegas
Love Song
Remember there is quality music of every genre, so no more complaining.
If you have found any up-and-coming artists that I should check out, please send me an e-mail to pumpsandgloss@yahoo.com.
Enjoy the Hump Day,

Trapped in the….
If you haven’t heard, R. Kelly is back with “Trapped in the Closet” Chapters 13 – 22. You can check out ALL the chapters at IFC.com/Trapped – can’t believe there are more chapters to come!
Chapter 12.5 is a summary of Chapters 1 – 12. The way R. keeps saying/singing “Oh s***” is just comical!
Check out “Weird Al” Yankovic’s version, “Trapped in the Drive-Thru.”
MADtv did a hilarious spoof too – “Trapped in the Cupboard.”
Feel The Vibrations
Hey yall, I am Sexual Carob (long story) and I will be filling in for Sensual Element while she is away at a stiletto and whip convention. Of course, the convention is in an undisclosed location.
I subscribe to the DailyCandy weekly e-mails. Daily Candy is a lifestyle website that sends readers information regarding travel destinations, new products gadgets, sales, etc. Most of the time, I read the article and delete, but Wednesday’s edition was different.
The product featured was the OhMiBod, a massager / vibrator to be used with an Apple iPod. (I see why Joyful Radiance and Sensual Element have the iPod on their wish lists.) The rod pulsates according to the rhythm of each song. The unit measures 5 1/2″ long (insertable) and 1 1/8″ in diameter. The DC suggests ” a slow rise from Sade to Shaggy” or whatever kind of music you like. OhMiBod retails for $69. (hmmm interesting price). The reviews have been glowing, but I think further research needs to done on this product.
The same company offers a mobile phone version call the Boditalk. The Boditalk functions the same as the OhMiBod. The vibrations occur when calls are made to or from your phone. The cell signal triggers a unique 3 pattern vibrating sequence that lasts for the entire call. Boditalk gives a new meaning to the term “phone sex” Fortunately, if you do not want to use up your minutes, the Boditalk sex wand can be used alone. This product also retails for $69.
FYI, if you try to order the OhMiBod from the manufacturer’s website, the item is on backorder (ok well, I am curious about it!!) But there is a coupon code for $10 off. See the OhMiBod site for details.
Check out the promotion for OhMiBod.
Have a Delicious Weekend,
Sexual Carob
